Implied as it is that a good weight is an advantage to a strength demanding game like soccer, many players are in a constant dilemma over their weight being suitable for the game of soccer along with being a fair representation of the body image.
Experts say that the beauty and passion of the game of soccer takes many players away from the obsession of thinness. However, all the players definitely strive for maintaining an optimal weight which suits their personality along with being just the perfect statistic for a strong game of soccer.
One can estimate the optimal healthy weight needed for a soccer player by using the following method. This method however is not valid for very muscular players.
The first 5 feet of the body should be 100 pounds (45 Kgs) in weight and thereafter, the weight should be 5 pounds (2.3 Kgs) per inch.
For example, a female soccer player having a height of 5 feet 3 inches should ideally have the weight of 45 + (3 x 2.3) = 51.9 Kgs that is approximately 52 Kgs
The first 5 feet of the body should be 106 pounds (48 Kgs) in weight and thereafter, the weight should be 6 pounds (2.7 Kgs) for every inch.
For example, a male soccer player having a height of 5 feet 10 inches should ideally have the weight of 48 + (10 x 2.7) = 75 Kgs
Depending on the body structure and the musculature of an individual we can add or subtract 10 percent to the optimal weight.
It is very essential for a serious soccer player to know, understand and accept the fact that soccer is a game of strength, endurance and power. An optimal weight can ensure a good performance.
The best weight target should be the one that imparts a healthy body to a soccer player. The weight should be fair enough to make a player feel strong and powerful. This also reduces the risk of injuries.
